Correctional Facility Experience
Parnall Correctional Facility
Project included completely removing the existing steam HVAC system for 12 buildings totaling 524,135 square feet. Removed buildings were converted from a central steam plant to a gas fired equipment system for most of the buildings and a hot water boiler system for the cell blocks. We designed new mechanical and electrical infrastructure to connect to new energy efficient systems.
Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility
Project consisted of reworking existing kitchen, converted existing serving area into sleeping quarters for 28 inmates, provide mechanical, plumbing, electrical and data to a new 48x76 modular unit. Relocate existing security camera and gate controls from the TRV Control Station to the modular unit. Provide electrical, mechanical, plumbing, security, and voice/data services for the complete remodel of the MSI Warehouse for use as classrooms, library, salon, bathrooms, and gym. Provide electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and security service in Housing Unit C, for the renovation from seclusion to maximum security. Matrix has completed other projects with a similar scope:

Ionia Correctional Facility - Site Lighting and Perimeter Fencing Project
The project consisted of design and project management for the Video Management and Perimeter Surveillance Enhancements Project including replacement of the existing perimeter light fixtures with LED fixtures, added security cameras, security racks, security control system cabinets and infrastructure wiring throughout the facility. Project consisted of removing two steam boilers from the Central Power Plant and installing two new steam boilers in the Central Power Plant to match the existing Michigan Reformatory heat load.
Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility
The project consisted of a new standalone steam boiler building to serve the existing Dormitory buildings. The existing Dormitory (totaling 45,100 square feet) will be completely removed from the existing steam Power Plant.
Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility
Project includes removing the existing steam HVAC system for twelve buildings totaling 318,861 square feet, removing buildings from the central steam plant and installing one central hot water heating boiler and one central domestic hot water system for all buildings. Gas fired equipment will be added to four buildings. Design included new mechanical and electrical infrastructure to the new energy efficient systems.
Ionia Correctional Facility
Project includes completely removing the existing steam HVAC system for nine buildings totaling 295,000 square feet, removing buildings from the central steam plant and installing hot water heating boilers and domestic hot water systems for most of the buildings. Gas fired equipment will be added to one building. Design includes new mechanical and electrical infrastructure to install new energy efficient systems.
